Learning Activity 1.5: Ethical Perspectives

Introduction and Purpose of Assignment

It is important for you to understand the moral philosophies and ethical perspectives that influence our culture and inform current business practices. This will cause you to be more aware of how the ethical understanding of people around you influences your worldview and business practices. This assignment reviews the basic details of one of the ethical perspectives, its impact on the current business marketplace, and your personal view of the perspective.

Objectives

• Examine moral philosophies and ethical perspectives and how these philosophies inform business practices. (1.3)

Theory and Context

Understanding what an ethical perspective is starts with a definition of ethics. Dictionary.com defines ethics as “the branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions.” Starting with this definition makes it easy to see why there are multiple ethical perspectives. It also helps us understand that a biblical worldview would significantly impact our personal ethical perspective.
