Purpose:Our field is rich with misinformation. You can Google any topic on fitness, wellness, or nutrition and find thousands of websites. There are equally as many scientific publications, many with conflicting information. As a student and a future graduate, you will have to be able to sift through this information and come to a conclusion. The ability to critically read, analyze, and accurately utilize or report your findings is an extremely important in any field related to the science of human movement.
The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize you with finding, reading, interpreting, and communicating your findings from research articles on a topic you find interesting. You will report your findings in a scholarly voice and then in terms a layman, or a person without a background in Kinesiology, can understand and use.
Skills: One of the most valuable skills you will gain from this exercise is the ability to find, read, interpret, and communicate findings from up-to-date, peer-reviewed scientific research. The more research articles you critically read the easier it gets. This is a tool you will need in order to make the best use of your education.
You will also begin the process of learning to report scientific findings in terms your future patients/clients will understand. This, too, takes practice.
