2. Shakespeare was one of the first playwrights to have dual plots, rather than one major storyline, in his plays. How does each of the dual plots (Lear and his daughters/Gloucester and his sons) in King Lear contribute to the understanding of the other plot and the play as a whole?

3. What function does the Fool serve in the play? Why do you think he disappears after Act III? What impact does his disappearance have?

4. Some characters discuss fate and the impact the stars, planets, eclipses, etc. have on people’s behavior, while other characters believe people are responsible for their own actions. Overall, which view do you think is endorsed in the play? Why?
